For The Butterfly Club have their eyes on a shiny new prize. In Egypt's Valley of the Kings a man named Howard Carter will stumble upon an unimaginable treasure – Tutankhamun's mummy: the greatest archaeological discovery of all time.
The three children are given an impossible task: travel to 1922 and uncover the mummy first.
But when the time-thieves disturb Tutankhamun's long sleep they wake something else too – a deadly and ancient curse. And now they must face the terrifying consequences of their actions...
Writing prompt: The mummy’s curse…
In the book, the mummy’s curse brings the ten plagues of Egypt down on the adventurers and the men who discovered Tutankhamun’s tomb. Now it’s time to invent your own mummy’s curse. What gruesome things can you imagine to inflict upon the people who disturb the mummy’s tomb?
Of course, you need people who suffer because of the curse. So think about the people who find the tomb. Are they explorers? Tomb robbers? Treasure Hunters? Archaeologists? What motivates them? How did they end up in the Egyptian desert? If it helps, use the characters from the book (Lord Carnarvon and Howard Carter). They’re real historical figures that interested readers can look up.
Writing prompt: Time travel adventure…
In the book, the Butterfly Club sends three adventurers through time to a newly independent Egypt. Where are you going to send your time travellers? What historical event would you like to send them to? Think about a historical period that interests you and that you would love to visit yourself if time travel existed.
You can write about the three time travellers in the book (four if you include Sir Arthur Conan Doyle) or make up your own characters.
